Synopsis;

The war is over. Its heroes forgotten. Until one chance discovery . . .

Idris has neither aged nor slept since they remade his mind in the war. And one of humanity’s heroes now scrapes by on a freelance salvage vessel, to avoid the attention of greater powers.

Eighty years ago, Earth was destroyed by an alien enemy. Many escaped, but millions more died. So mankind created enhanced humans such as Idris – who could communicate mind-to-mind with our aggressors. Then these ‘Architects’ simply disappeared and Idris and his kind became obsolete.

Now, Idris and his crew have something strange, abandoned in space. It’s clearly the work of the Architects – but are they really returning? And if so, why? Hunted by gangsters, cults and governments, Idris and his crew race across the galaxy as they search for answers. For they now possess something of incalculable value, and many would kill to obtain it.

My thoughts;

So, before I get into the review I just want to say that I finished this book less than half an hour ago and still haven’t collected my thoughts together yet so, please bare with me.

I own 3 books on my shelf by this author and haven’t had the chance to pick any of them up yet. However, now, more than ever, I want to. So many people recommend his books and now I understand why. They have definitely been bumped up the tbr.

In all honesty though, when I first picked this up I was not in the mood for a sci-fi and couldn’t get into it. When I hit about the 200 page mark I really started to enjoy it. I really enjoy sci-fi usually and the synopsis for this one as well as, everyone’s reviews had me eagerly anticipating reading this so, you have no idea how happy I was that it lived up to the hype.

I really liked the diverse cast of characters within the book. Each character was well fleshed out, I felt like I new each of them, even though I liked some more than others.

I really love this world and the politics, they are both really complex but, I liked that as every detail was so well thought out and easy to understand, a testament to a brilliant writing style. I’m usually such a character driven reader but, whilst I love the characters, I was so invested in the plot and the world that Tchaikovsky has created.

Tchaikovsky really managed to create such a well constructed world that I could picture vividly in my mind. If you love great plot twists, politics, a diverse cast of characters, non stop action, an intense mystery throughout that keeps you seriously hooked or if you love anything to do with sci-fi and space operas then, I highly recommend picking this one up. You will not be sorry! This is the first book in a series and believe me when I say it really is a series you want to invest your time into!

4.5 stars!
