Today I am going to be reviewing the cousins by Karen M. McManus, a book that (I’m embarrassed to say) I knew nothing about before I heard about the blog tour🙈! I don’t know why I hadn’t heard of it. I have read 2 of Karen’s previous books and enjoyed both of them! I gave one of us is lying 5 stars!

Synopsis:
Milly, Aubrey, and Jonah Story are cousins, but they barely know each another, and they’ve never even met their grandmother. Rich and reclusive, she disinherited their parents before they were born. So when they each receive a letter inviting them to work at her island resort for the summer, they’re surprised… and curious.
Their parents are all clear on one point—not going is not an option. This could be the opportunity to get back into Grandmother’s good graces. But when the cousins arrive on the island, it’s immediately clear that she has different plans for them. And the longer they stay, the more they realize how mysterious—and dark—their family’s past is.
The entire Story family has secrets. Whatever pulled them apart years ago isn’t over—and this summer, the cousins will learn everything.
My thoughts:
Karen M. McManus is an amazing author that I have loved since I read her first book (one of us is lying) in 2018 which, I gave 5 stars! I just love her writing style and her ability to create so much suspense that you cannot turn the pages fast enough, I knew I was going to love this one before I even started it and I was right! It did take me a lot longer to read than usual because of headaches but, once I finally was able to pick it up again, I flew through it!!!
Mildred, Aubrey and Jonah (the three cousins) are all very interesting characters. It is evident even in the first couple of chapters, as we are being introduced to the main characters that there are many secrets to be uncovered in the story family but, also there are some secrets going on between the cousins also. I liked seeing them become friends and also watch there individual character growth.
It is evident very early on in the book that there are a lot of secrets in the story family and I loved trying to guess what they were. It’s not just secrets though, we also get to see the siblings in flashback chapters, how there story unfolds and how they got where they are now. You are also trying to figure out why the siblings don’t talk anymore, and why there mother disinherited them all those years ago. They are such a complicated family and… I loved that hehe. I loved reading about there complicated relationships and history.
I really loved this book overall and how everything was revealed and brought together. It had just the right amount of family drama, mystery, intrigue, suspense and romance. Once again Karen M. McManus has made me fall in love with her writing and books, now I’m in the mood for more thrillers. I did not see that reveal coming! Honestly, if you love thrillers and books with a mystery that will suck you in from the start READ THIS BOOK!!!!!!
