How are you?
Today I am going to be doing my ambitious January tbr! Is anyone really surprised that it is ambitious, I don’t think so lol. I think there are a total of 24 books on this tbr, some are books I wanted to get to in December, next in series or just books that I really want to read!
I’m also going to be taking part in medievalathon!!🥳🥳 I’m so excited, the graphics for this readathon get better and better. If you don’t know what medievalathon is I will link the twitter Here.
I honestly don’t know how this reading month is going to go. I have so much I want to read but, I have approximately 7 weeks of uni work to catch up on because I have fallen behind and I only have about 2 and a bit weeks to catch up😬😬…help🙈😂.
Anyway, I’m rambling as usual, let’s just get into the books I *would like* to get to in January!
Neverseen by Shannon Messenger
This is the fourth book in the keeper of the lost cities series. I really want to finish this book in January, actually I really want to finish this entire series this year. I think there are nine books in the series… it should be doable.
Throne of swans by Katherine Corr
The sequel to this book (a crown of talons) comes out on the 7th of January so I really want to get to this one early so that I can read the sequel, if I like it. I love the premise of this book so hopefully I love it.
A pinch of magic by Michelle Harrison
I am reading this one for our middle grade book club. This is a reread for me which, I’m excited about because I don’t remember much about book 1 and I really want to get to the sequel.
Of curses and kisses by Sandhya Menon
I put this on my tbr in the middle of 2020 sometime and didn’t read it. I wasn’t really in the mood for it at the time so I didn’t put it on many tbrs. I really want to get to this one in January, I have heard mixed things and I want to see on what side of the scale I sit on.
The railway detective by Edward Marston
If I get to it this will be a reread for me. I read book 7 or 8 in this series about 2 years ago (I didn’t realise it was book 7 or 8 lol) and I really enjoyed it and I managed to understand it also hehe. I then read this first book in 2019 and really enjoyed this one also. I want to reread it so I can read all of the books in this series.
The girl in the tower by Katherine Arden
This is the second book in the wonternight trilogy. I read the bear and the nightingale in December and love it so much! I have heard that book 2 is even better than book one and I’m so excited to continue on with this trilogy.
Rules for vanishing by Kate Alice Marshall
This is a thriller/ mystery novel I think. It may have some horror elements as well, I honestly don’t know much about this book as I want to go into it blind. I think this is going to be a fast paced read so hopefully I can finish this in a day or two depending on what else I am doing.
So, For medievalathon I decided to become a blacksmith! I might also try to become a bard as well or a seamstress if I have time. It’s always good to keep options open right?😂
Let’s get into the prompts shall we;
Level 1- Read a book with gold, silver or bronze in the title or on the cover.
For this I have chosen ‘royal assassin’ by Robin Hobb. I read assassins apprentice in December and I want to read the sequel whilst the world and characters are still fresh in my mind. I loved the first book in this series and I’m excited to see where it is going to go from here.
Level 2- Read a book you are scared to read.
For this prompt I couldn’t decide what I wanted to choose. There are so many books that I am scared to read. In the end I decided on ‘the blade itself’ by Joe Abercrombie. I know that I like how Abercrombie’s writing after reading his shattered sea trilogy, I’m just really scared about not liking this because of all the hype but, also because I really want to love it and it sounds like something I will enjoy.
Level 3- Read a book with a weapon on the cover.
Level 4- Read a hardcover.
For this prompt I have chosen ‘The ten thousand doors of January’ by Alix E. Harrow. I have been meaning to get to this book for… well it’s been a very long time. It’s been in so many tbr posts that I have done🤦♀️. I am determined to get to this book this month. I’m really hoping that I do🤞.
Level 5- Read the last book in a series.
For this last prompt I chose ‘Kulku’ by Angela Hossack. This is the last book in the beyond the bloodline series and I really want to get to this book in January! I’m so excited to see how this series is going to end but, also very nervous!
Middlegame by Seanan McGuire
I started this book in December and I’m listening to the audiobook which, is something I haven’t done in a while. I’ve enjoyed what I have listened to so far, hopefully i can finish this one in January also.
Every sky a grave by Jay Posey
I think this book was also on my December tbr as well as my November tbr and my October tbr🙈😂. I will be so happy and pleased with myself if I manage to get to this book this month. I don’t know why I keep putting it off, I’m in a sci-fi mood and not reading sci-fi… I’m so weird hehe.
The prophecy con by Patrick Weeks
This is the second book in the rogues of the republic trilogy. I really enjoyed the first one, it was fun and the characters where just sooo good! Their banter and all the mess they got themselves into was so funny and I’m really enjoying this light hearted fantasy series.
The grace of kings by Ken Liu
……. I’m not sure I’m actually going to get to this one this month but, I can hope right? This book isn’t talked about so much anymore but, recently I have seen quite a few people reviewing it and most of the reviews I have seen are all hyping this book! I’m intrigued, it sounds like my type of read, I hope I can at least start it this month.
The blight of muirwood by Jeff Wheeler
This is the second book in the legends of muirwood series. The first book in this series was so good! The only thing is, I read it early last year and have read so many things since then that I can’t remember some of the details. I may have to reread book one before I read this one which, means I likely won’t get to this one this month but, I can hope.
Wonderscape by Jennifer Bell
This is a book that I really want to get to this month (I have literally said this sentence so many times now), I love the sound of this book and I am in the mood for more middle grades at the moment.
Wasted Words by Staci Hart
This book was inspired by Jane Austen’s Emma! It seems like it’s going to be a really cute, fun and quirky read and I’m excited to get to it.
Traitors blade by Sebastien De Castell
Another book that has been on almost every tbr I have done for the last… 6 months or so. If I can get to this book in January I will be sooo happy!
The aggressive by Gem Jackson
As I said I am in such a sci-fi mood at the moment and this one caught my attention when I was browsing kindle unlimited. It sounds like such a fun read and I am here for it, can’t wait!
Strange love by Ann Aguirre
This is a book I also came across whilst browsing kindle unlimited. This one sounds funny and entertaining. It also sounds a bit weird but, I am here for that! This is basically about an alien entering into a matching ceremony to find a mate…. sort of like the bachelor but, in space I guess😂.
Breakaway by Michelle Diener
Another sci-fi book… what a surprise lol. I also found this book whilst browsing kindle unlimited. Can you tell I was hunting for some feee sci-fi books🙈🤣. This is a four part series and each book is focused on a different set of characters, I think. They all seem to be sci-fi romances which, I’m very excited about.
The Christmas swap by Sandy Barker
and last but certainly not least, a Christmas book. I will likely be reading Christmassy books until the end of February😂. I’m reading this one with Noly, we are still both very much in a Christmassy mood! I’m liking the characters so far, and the countries are really interesting, I like that it is set in three countries. Me and Noly cannot decide which country we would prefer to live in😂.
So that is everything that I want to read in the month of January. The likelihood of me reading all of these books is pretty slim but, I am nothing if not ambitious🤣.
