How are you?
Today I am going to be taking part in a blog tour for the inheritance games by Jennifer Lynn Barnes. Thank you so much to Dave for letting me take part in this tour and to penguin and Jennifer for this amazing book!
A Cinderella story with deadly stakes and thrilling twists, perfect for fans of One of Us is Lying and Knives Out.
Avery Grambs has a plan for a better future: survive high school, win a scholarship, and get out. But her fortunes change in an instant when billionaire Tobias Hawthorne dies and leaves Avery virtually his entire fortune. The catch? Avery has no idea why–or even who Tobias Hawthorne is. To receive her inheritance, Avery must move into sprawling, secret passage-filled Hawthorne House, where every room bears the old man’s touch–and his love of puzzles, riddles, and codes.
Unfortunately for Avery, Hawthorne House is also occupied by the family that Tobias Hawthorne just dispossessed. This includes the four Hawthorne grandsons: dangerous, magnetic, brilliant boys who grew up with every expectation that one day, they would inherit billions. Heir apparent Grayson Hawthorne is convinced that Avery must be a con-woman, and he’s determined to take her down. His brother, Jameson, views her as their grandfather’s last hurrah: a twisted riddle, a puzzle to be solved. Caught in a world of wealth and privilege, with danger around every turn, Avery will have to play the game herself just to survive.
Can I just quickly say that the US cover (I think it’s the US cover) is so so pretty omg!😍 But the UK cover has me more intrigued.
A couple of years ago I read a Jennifer Lynn Barnes book (the naturals) and I enjoyed it but it didn’t blow me away, this one however, really did! I could NOT put this book down!
Avery (our main character) was a really great character, I really enjoyed experiencing this book from her perspective. She’s highly intelligent and wise for her years and handled the situation she was randomly thrown into very well considering the circumstances.
I didn’t know what to make of the family, they were so interesting to read about though. You know they all have secrets and hidden motives and trying to piece together what those secrets are was so much fun… that sounds weird but I enjoy figuring out clues.
The estate itself was so fun to explore, so many hidden passageways and the libraries yes, you read that right there are more than one! I wanted to much to be in this book and get to explore those libraries and this house.
I loved figuring out the clues with Avery and the Hawthorne grandsons and there were times where I would guess the clues which didn’t bother me because I was proud of myself for getting them right haha and times where I didn’t see something coming from a mile away that left me sitting on my bed with my mouth hanging open in shock.
This book has so many twists and turns, you will find yourself turning pages faster than you ever have before because you just have to know what the next clue is! Jennifer has an amazing way of crafting plots. I cannot wait for book 2! Read it now or you won’t know what you are missing!
